Social networks

One main challenge for international students in terms of finding employment is the lack of networks in Finland.

In a Finnish university, students are expected to be self-directed and autonomous, and for some students this can cause a psychological chaos. Some students are used to discussing issues with and receiving guidance from their family members and friends, and all of a sudden they are alone in a new country with lot of written information and fewer people to contact and ask for help.

The better we can provide the students with a feeling that they are part of the university campus and that we care for them, the easier their mental adaptation to studying and living in Finland can be. The students’ well-being also has a positive effect on their motivation and resources to study.
