Collaboration between universities and employers increases the employability of the students. Employer contribution can also be put to good use in developing degree programmes.
To make employers aware and interested in the collaboration opportunities, universities have to market them. Marketing does not necessarily mean wide media coverage: simply publishing and describing collaboration opportunities clearly on the website of the university is a good marketing vehicle.
Employers find it is easy to participate in collaboration projects that have a clear concept, are directed at them and are beneficial for the employer as well. At best, all parties benefit – also the students who gain experience and contacts in the Finnish labour market.
Successful employer collaboration calls for an internal structure and network of persons in the university responsible for the collaboration. Identifying contact persons is extremely important.
